Ten years ago, on 16 May 2016, the first issue of the eZine eMeteorNews Journal was published online. Ten years represents a significant period in a human life during which a lot of work has been done, a good occasion to look back. The history of meteor astronomy has proven that meteor work flourished when and where a lot of attention was paid to meteors in the form of articles and publications. Free availability is another requirement to promote meteor work. High subscription fees for professional journals and membership requirements for amateur journals are a letdown for many amateurs. Why should anyone pay for information that can be given for free?

The purpose of eMeteornews was to create an easy medium to publish articles without access restrictions and without delays in the form of a website with WordPress. eMeteorNews was created independently from any formal body in order to minimize overhead. Since the start in early 2016, more than 200 people have published via eMeteorNews as author or as co-author. 1828 posts were published in WordPress (until 10 May 2026). The PDF-eZine serves to archive the WordPress content in a decently edited format. In total, 58 issues have been produced, with 815 papers (4028 pages), a huge amount of work! All these papers can be consulted at https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/search/p_=1&q=eMetN where the content will be preserved indefinitely.

Today many more people are involved in meteor astronomy than ever before, more fireballs, shower outbursts, etc. are being observed. It is important to document these events for future research. This requires volunteers who make the effort to write papers and reports. People get older, change interests and unfortunately several active meteor workers passed away during the past ten years. New authors are much needed. You can help promote meteor work by writing about your work and your results, making sure that your efforts remain preserved in the form of published reports or papers.
