Abstract: A report is presented to announce the decision by the IAU Commission F1 to approve the proposed established status for 59 meteor showers selected by the F1 Working Group following an evaluation. The decision was announced by the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams in CBET No. 5765 on 2026 October 20 (Kokhirova et al., 2026).
We are reporting 59 newly established meteor showers listed in the IAU Meteor Data Center (MDC).
The IAU Working Group on Meteor Shower Nomenclature (WG) started the evaluation procedure using the May 2026 version of the MDC, in which 152 showers fulfilled the essential criteria for becoming candidates. The MDC team selected 85 of the best candidates. For 12 showers, inconsistencies between the Lookup Tables and mean values were identified (081/SLY, 101/PIH, 136/SLE, 410/DPI, 520/MBC, 535/THC, 581/NHE, 587/FNC, 593/TOL, 651/OAV, 854/PCY, 752/AAC), and for 6 showers, other problematic solutions were found (107/DCH, 150/SOP, 199/ADC, 253/CMI, 555/OCP, 574/GMA).
The remaining 67 showers were evaluated by the WG members. During this process, another shower was suggested for evaluation (701/BCE), bringing the total number of showers considered to 68.
The evaluation was based on the expertise of the WG members, their knowledge of the weaknesses of individual candidates as reported in the scientific literature, and discussions within the WG. In the end, 59 candidates were approved by a vote of the WG members. For 9 showers (47/DLI, 149/NOP, 256/ORN, 424/SOL, 456/MPS, M2023-U2, 558/TSM, 567/XHY, and 900/BBO), issues were identified, so the establishment process was postponed until more solutions or information become available.
The 59 showers approved by the WG members were subsequently approved by the IAU Commission F1 (Meteors, Meteorites and Interplanetary Dust) and assigned the official names proposed by their discoverers:
